airships of the future

Did Count von Zeppelin play both sides in WW1? Should Zeps be illegal?
OR ARE THEY THE FUTURE OF AVIATION?
Chapter 2 covers the so called Golden Age opening with a brief narration of the British rigid airship R-34’s round-trip Atlantic crossing in 1919 (a date not given in the text) then describes the test flight crash of R-38. The narration continues with the saving of the Zeppelin Company by building the US W.W.I reparations airship Zeppelin LZ-126, later christened Los Angeles. The balance of the chapter briefly narrates the building of the famous Graf Zeppelin and its round-the-world and early flights.
Count von Zeppelin worked strictly for the German gov’t in WW1, the Allies used their own airship designs.
Why would airships be “illegal”? That makes as much sense as saying, “multi-engine propeller-driven aircraft were bombers in WW2-so those should be illegal”.
There MAY and I emphasize “may” be a future role for airships especially in freight haulage to remote locations: the biggest issue-and least efficient means vis-a-vis fuel expenditure per load, is trucking goods from railheads/airports/ports to their final destinations. An airship would be able to deliver directly from factory/warehouse to the consumer. In fact, a firm in Salt Lake City is experimenting with rigid airships (one prototype did a cross-country to Las Vegas a couple years back). Other than some sightseeing flights-airships probably won’t be carrying passengers in any amount in the near future.
